Crypto ROI and CAGR Calculator
Compare what a holding was worth at the start and the end of a period to get the total return, the growth multiple and the compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
- CAGR (per year)
- –
- Total return
- –
- Growth multiple
- –
How it is calculated
- Total return = (ending value − starting value) ÷ starting value × 100
- Growth multiple = ending value ÷ starting value
- CAGR = (ending value ÷ starting value)^(1 ÷ years) − 1
Worked example
1,000 that grew to 8,000 in three years.
| You enter | |
|---|---|
| Starting value | 1,000 |
| Ending value | 8,000 |
| Period | 3 years |
| You get | |
| CAGR (per year) | 100.0000% |
| Total return | 700.0000% |
| Growth multiple | 8 × |
The holding grew 8× (700% in total), which is the same as growing 100% every year, compounded.
Questions
Why is CAGR lower than total return ÷ years?
CAGR assumes each year's growth builds on the previous year's, so a smaller yearly rate compounds to the same total. 700% over 3 years is 100% a year compounded (1 → 2 → 4 → 8), not 233% a year.
